Tear Stains

Recently Tikkie started having excessive tears which have now led to dark brown stains around his eyes. I have tried all safe remedies I have found on the web to remove them but without success.

A visit to the vet was our next step. After examination he advised me that there were a number of causes for excessive tears. The most common cause being allergies. He suggested a course of antihistamines and a check around the house and yard for any new contaminates that may be the cause. He also asked if I had changed his diet as some food products may be the cause.

Returning home I researched all the treats and food I had been giving him and removed all those that had added dyes and colours. I use only natural cleaning products and hadn't changed my routine so ruled that out.

The garden was next. As I have found very little extra time for this part of my chores it had been neglected some what. So one weekend my other half and I tackled the weeds and fixed the sprinkler system to get the garden back into some order. Hoping that this would eliminate any strange pollen or growths that might be affecting Tikkie's allergies.

Two weeks later and with the regular eye bathing we are no better!

I now resigned myself to the fact that Tikkie may have blocked tear ducts and need surgery, that was until I noticed little Lady Tazmin smothering Tikkies eyes with licks! Hmmmm could that be a reason he is not getting better? I think another quick vet consultation may be in order.
