The Tea Cup Chihuahua Myth Busted

During my period of breeding and selling chihuahua puppies I have had a number of queries about Tea-Cup Chihuahuas. I am here to tell you that this term is a bit of a sales pitch and that they simply do not exist. Pictures such as the one here are taken of a chi puppy weighing no more than 800g placed in an oversized cup and made to look this way. Chihuahuas are a small breed animal and can be anywhere between 1 to 6 kg when fully grown. Even a small chi weighing a mere 1kg will most certainly not fit into a cup. The average weight of a smallish healthy adult chi is 2-3kg although some have been known to grow taller weighing up to 6 kgs and still be determined as pedigree.

I am not saying that very small chihuahuas cannot be found, because they can, however, they are very few and far between. Some may be this way due to ill breeding. It has been my experience that these tiny chihuahuas are usually thwart with health issues giving their owners huge medical bills and many sleepless nights.

As a breeder committed to improving the integrity of the breed, I am not willing to bend to the whims of socialites or in the position of promoting Tea-Cup Chihuahuas.

Below is a link from the Dogzonline website all about the Tea-cup Chihuahua myth.
