3 Weeks Old!

The puppies are three weeks old now and starting to explore their surroundings.

They stumble a little as they are still not too sure of their little feet but are getting stronger each day. They have had their first dose of worming medicine which they hated! (Really who likes medicine anyways) I did a new weight and measure they have all doubled their birth weight and have grown considerably in those first two weeks.

The colouring has lightend up too, the sable pups are now showing more gold tan colourings with the little female displaying more facial markings than her brother. She is truly a little beauty. Even though she was born first, she is the smallest in the litter but also the prettiest.

The little black female has developed some tan markings on her legs so am thinking she will be tri coloured.

They are still being fed by Mum at the moment but she is leaving them on their own more and more so will begin to introduce some softened puppy food in the next week. That is always a challenge but a welcome distraction.

As I mentioned previously, they are beginning to explore their surroundings and are being playful with each other. I expect this kind of behaviour to increase over the next few weeks with Mum leaving them for longer periods until they are fully weaned. During this time they will be able to interact with the other dogs and become more socialised. Their dad is always eager to play with them and already stands next to their enclosure peeking in for a nuzzle and sniff so they come closer to investigate. He cant wait to show them how to run and play!
