Whoo Hoo! It is only day 11 and already we have a couple of pups with their eyes open. My last litter was 14 days before any sign of them opening so I am well and truly happy. It is not unusual though, most litters will have eye opening episodes anywhere from 10-14 days so we are definately within the normal range. Only 2 of the pups have their eyes open the third little girl's are firmly shut. I will say that she is the smallest of the litter even though she was born first.
Their progress has been good with all three gaining weight and growing well. The vet has checked them and has not found any birth defects so are healthy little Chi pups. Maggie had some milk issues on her third day but quickly overcame them without any medication for which I am pleased. Maggie is eating three meals a day and is on a high calcium formula to maintain good health for both herself and the puppies. My vet and family have been so supportive and helpful for which i am truly grateful.
The couloring of all 3 pups is becoming more defined as they grow. The 2 sable pups are lightening up to be a golden fawn colour with the black sable markings becoming more predominant.
The little black and white girl has started to show some tan markings so may even be a tri colour at maturity.
